What is 'Urban Safari'?

Urban Safari is a public intervention project desigend to track the flow of people through Union Square.
Motivation
for this project stems from our initial observation of the movement of people through and around the space and its likeness to animals congregating at a watering hole. Many people pass though Union Square or are drawn to it as a sort of necessary place to find refuge from the heavy foot traffic of New York City. Due to its design, the park allows for people to gather in groups or rest individually at any hour of the day or night. We are interested in documenting this movement/traffic flow by using sidwalk chalk to track peoples footsteps, in much the same manner as footprints are left behind near watering holes. More>>
